Unique Project Overview
Texas Original is a medical cannabis provider that services the state of Texas. They handle complete growing, cultivation, production, sales and delivery of the products from start to end.
Due to the unique nature of the highly regulated products containing THC, they are highly governmental regulated and have very strict business processes, integrations, and workflows that must be followed without fail. Also, as they provide only medical cannabis to those individuals with an active prescription, and need to verify each prescription through the official Texas registry, they fall into the higher-end privacy and protection needs of HIPPA compliance due to accepting or transmitting sensitive patient data.
Additionally, ordering and delivery processes are slightly unique for this company compared to common B2C organizations, where customers must pickup all orders from one of several distribution centers. This requires scheduling of pickup dates, high end integrations with delivery and pickup tracking confirmation systems (Such as OnFleet), ERP integrations and more. Another example would be that the products require advanced tracking, right down to the individual cultivation and batch processing, so that each product within each batch can be tracked from point of cultivation to the final customer who used the product.
Due to the unique business nature of their organization, Texas Original does not use only common ERP systems, but has highly extended their order process systems with custom ERP management capabilities directly within Adobe Commerce (Magento). We developed complete advanced order management systems, tracking everything from exact unique batch barcodes that were put into each shipment, the drivers and routes they were delivered with, the customer confirmation of receipt, integrations into Sage ERP warehouse system, high end reporting systems, and more.
Services Provided
I provided a complete range of services for Texas original both from a BA/SA aspect as well as being the primary PM during the entire development phase, passing the project off to another PM shortly after site launch.
- BA/SA: I provided complete BA/SA design services of this project From the start of the project through the complete development, through launch and after launch. All standard business analyst-related skills were utilized with this client due to the unique organization business needs. Requirements gathering, solution architecting, wireframing, UI/UX, workflows, business processes, test planning and more were all provided.
- PM: I provided complete PM services through the initial project development phases up through launch. A secondary PM supported through the initial phases and then took over as a primary PM only after the successful launch of the project had been completed fully and was live past warranty periods. All standard PM services were provided such as budgeting, time management, meetings, scheduling, resource allocation etc…
- Complete Integrations: This project has advanced levels of system integrations that exceed the complexities of most mid-sized Magento clients. As an example the website directly talks with OnFleet, a shipping fleet management system for tracking orders, delivery drivers, schedules and more. The website also works with Sage ERP for tracking inventory, barcodes, batches and related. And several other advanced systems exist unique to this unique business. As such this project included, custom endpoints, custom API’s, scheduled synchs and more.
- SEO Various Support: Early project support and process analysis for project requirements and definition were done. During and after development standard integrations and reporting services were included such as integration with GTM/GA, search console, audits, landing page reviews, backlink reviews and more.
- Design / UX Support: This project has many special order processes unique to itself, such as advanced product lifecycles, ordering process for restricted products, scheduling of deliveries during ordering processes, advanced product documentation such as being able to see the exact batch lifecycle of the product delivered, prescription tracking, prescription label printing, and more. As such there were unique interface flows which I helped architect and then work with the designers to complete through the design and development phases.
