Door Closer Service Company, Inc. got its start in Washington, DC in 1943 and has been supplying products to local glass companies, locksmiths, security companies, builder’s hardware, cabinet & millwork companies, schools, churches, institutions, general contractors, real estate management companies, and government – federal, state and local counties.

Project Overview

Smart Solutions has been working with Doorcloser for many years on their ecommerce platform.

During my tenure at Smart Solutions we re-designed and improved the website, integrating many new features and business processes to help the site be successful and provide room to grow.  After initial development Doorcloser stayed on a retainer with Smart Solutions to continue to support and grow further.

This project has all common features you would expect from a small to mid-sized ecommerce project, including ERP/Accounting integrations, advanced shipping configurations for products with dimensional shipping needs, B2B and B2C focused clients and more.

Services Provided

I provided a complete range of services for Doorcloser both from a BA/SA aspect as well as being the primary PM during the entire development phase and during most portions of their retainer support, with an alternative PM attempting to support them at some periods of maintenance.

They were mostly my client for a large portion of my tenure at Smart Solutions.

  • BA/SA:  I provided complete BA/SA design services of this project from nearly the start of the project through the complete development, through launch and after launch.   All standard business analyst-related skills were utilized with this client due to the unique organization business needs.  Requirements gathering, solution architecting, wireframing, UI/UX, workflows, business processes, test planning and more were all provided. This included both standard flows as well as extra levels of integration and customization support such as handling custom dimensional shipping needs.
  • PM:  I provided complete PM services through the initial project development phases, and also post launch.  I also took them back as a PM a year later during some periods of their retainer contract.   All standard PM services were provided such as budgeting, time management, meetings, scheduling, resource allocation etc…
  • Complete Integrations:  This project has multiple different types of system integrations, such as integration with their Quickbooks system, inventory tracking systems and other common ecommerce integrations.
  • SEO Various Support:  From the start of the project through maintenance periods, full SEO supportive work was performed to help ensure site traffic growth, high quality core web vitals and more. During and after development standard integrations and reporting services were included such as integration with GTM/GA, search console, audits, landing page reviews, backlink reviews and more.
  • Design / UX Support:  This project has several special order or shipment processes unique to itself, such as complex pricing for shipping certain products (Dimensional Shipping topics), clearance categories and more. I helped architect and then work with the designers to complete various UI/UX services to meet the special business processes throughout the project phases.
